Link words
Link words allow you to associate words with the connections between nodes in a RiskTree. This enables the construction of risk description sentences in plain language, instead of the default in which arrows link the names of nodes.
Setting link words
To set the link words for a connection, click on the connection when the cursor becomes a hand pointer. This will open the following dialogue box:
Different words or phrases will be needed depending on whether the connection is being read down the tree (from the root node to the risk) or up the tree. Enter either or both link words, and press the Update button.
Using link words
To make use of link words, go to the Settings dialogue box, and change the option for Link node names in risk table. This has four options:
- Downwards, using arrows – the default for RiskTree, writing the risks in the format Steal data » External attacker » Copy credentials
- Downwards, using link words – if a connection has a 'down' link word, this will be used between the node names in place of the arrow
- Upwards, using link words – this reverses the order for displaying the names, showing them from the risk up to the root node. If a connection has an 'up' link word, this will be used between the node names in place of the arrow
- No links – only the name of the risk, on the final node, will be shown
This setting will not be enabled until risks have been calculated.
If link words exist, they will automatically be used if a bow-tie diagram is created.
